The State of Florida passed a new fire code rule in 2009 which was created to help save firefighters’ lives. Under the State Fire Marshal’s Rule 69A-3.012, any commercial, industrial, or multiunit residential structure with a lightweight truss system must be marked with an approved symbol to alert firefighters of a building’s construction type. The rule became effective Dec. 13, 2009, and directs all structures to be marked by March 13, 2010. The State's local staff will be notifying owners via mail, personal contact, during business inspections, and construction plans reviews.
